The sight my mom has been waiting ages to see...
This is, in fact, a finished quilt top. Or most of it, at least.
I call it the "Thanks for Taking Care of my Dog Hating Cat for Eight Months" quilt. There's no catchy abbreviation for that, sadly. Nor is there a really good picture because I think about photographing it in the evening. I jury rigged a design board by hanging the black batting I'm using for this quilt from some 3M Command Strips on my TV Room's wall. It's a plaster wall, so I can't hammer nails and I'm too lazy to drill holes to hang my art, so this works pretty well as both art and function.
I sandwiched and basted it tonight, so I should be quilting it soon. It might be finished this week, but probably not since I have a wardroom event tomorrow evening, the ship's picnic the day after and then I fly out to spend the long weekend with my family at the ranch in Oregon. So, while mom may have been waiting to see this, she's going to have to wait a while to snuggle under it.
I was thinking I'd be able to do some knitting again once I got this done, but I do have another quilt top that needs to be finished and then just got word that a friend's second little girl is due in January. So, I have more sewing in front of me.
On the non-crafty front, there is mroe going on than I can keep track of, much less tell you about. I'm in the shipyard and our time keeps getting extended. This is good, because there's some much needed work being done. It's bad because the more time I spend in the yards, the less I get to spend at sea. I think I've only got about 40 days at sea left in my tour, which is a bummer. I love my crew, but I REALLY love my crew at sea. Still, best job in the world, so I'm not complaining. Much...
Oh Shanti! That is just gorgeous! I thought at first it was a stained glass window. What a great design. I know your mom will definitely enjoy snuggling under that!

I love it! Could you please finish it before you come up to OR? ... I could snuggle under it up there. Oh, wait ... someone might take it! I'll wait ... it's gorgeous.

Great job! You certainly have an extraordinary amount of energy, though I imagine you get that taken care of out at sea!
My son, Carl, has been too intimidated to come visit, however, he has seen the Decatur in port in San Diego.
Enjoy your time!
