As much as I love being at sea, I have to admit that at the five month mark, I'm getting tired.
We broke out the San Diego harbor chart yesterday to conduct an Officer of the Deck board - boards are rather like an inquisition, in which the CO, XO and Department Heads sit across from and quiz one or two candidates on their knowledge and skill sets regarding a specific job. In this case, it was for two young Officers who are now qualified to drive, navigate and in some cases, fight the ship. It was a good board, a little rough in some spots as they always are, but 90 minutes after they walked in, the two of them walked out a little more confident. And I was day dreaming about home.
When do you get to return to your new home?
Glad the boards went reasonably well.
Like the picture. Very artsy.

It's another month or two before we get home...but we're on the back end!

Enjoy it while you can, Shanti. I spent just under 13 years in the Navy and had just over 10 years of sea time. I even terminated my shore duty after the first year to go back to a ship. I served onboard five ship: USS Theodore Roosevelt, USS Ponce, USS Simon Lake, PCU/USS Harry S Truman, and USS Vella Gulf. I have been out for 10 years and still dream about being underway.
