I had planned a relaxing weekend. Really. I'm always a little lost after spending time at sea - the quiet and solitude of my house (especially since Stormy is with my mom for the next month) is disconcerting after the constant noise and motion of the ship. It can even be a little bit sad, though I get over it after a few days and I am back into my routine. Saturday I went to the Farmer's Market down the street - California markets are only a little different from DC ones, though this one is new to the neighborhood and so the community is still figuring things out. I try to hit at least one of the prepared food stands for breakfast, this time going for a ham and cheese buckwheat crepe, which was great. I got lots of veggies and some flavored hummus to bring to sea with me next week. What I didn't bring home...
I sort of like sea urchin, depending on the freshness, and I've even eaten it out of the shell once someone else has done the preparation, but I've never just bought one at the market. Maybe next time.
And the Earthbox I planted in the backyard appears to be getting ready to produce some of my own produce, though I suspect it will never be enough for me to skip the market.
Those are cherry sungold tomatoes.
Saturday I also moved a bunch of stuff into storage in the garage attic and hauled some stuff around inside the house. Sunday I did very little of anything other than going to trapeze at the local rig, which isn't so much local as it is a 45 minute drive from home. Still totally worth the drive and the pain in my hands and upper body today. Today was supposed to be much less driving and more arranging stuff in and around the house so that I'd be ready for the second half of my stuff to come on Tuesday. Except that the drive called on Sunday and said he could come today if I wanted - which I did since it means I don't have to skip out on a day at the ship.
It took the movers all over about three and a half hours, most of which was them re-building the bookshelves while I unpacked the few boxes that were in the shipment. I have too much furniture, but that's being taken care of through a well-timed pick-up on Thursday from the nice Father Joe/St. Vincent De Paul folks who bent over backwards to get my stuff picked up before I head out for a month. That means the car will fit in the garage and I'll be able to ride my bike to the ship on Friday. Excellent for all. Except that now I have to continue putting stuff away and I'm down to roughly three nights to do so or else come home to a disaster. The kitchen and bedroom are fine, but the living room, foyer and office need lots of work.
I think the books multiplied while the were in storage...
Books have a habit of expanding to fill all available space plus 25%!

Books have the habit of expanding to overfill the available space. Plus it's always a problem when you destroy/lose at least one bookshelf for the last three moves. And of course I keep getting more books. I don't know about you.
Have fun at sea for a month.
