Remember those rainbow squares and strips I cut out before I went to France? After I finished the little girl quilt I need done soonest, I started sewing the rainbows. I made the blocks as I'd envisioned and I really love each of them individually. The problem is, I'm not sure about how to put them together, so I figured I'd see if there are any opinions out in the ether.
I put them together in blocks of color...
In a couple of different configurations...
And I also tried a slightly more random distribution but kept the color/white distribution the same (tried doing it with the color center blocks in one group and the white center blocks in the other but didn't really like it - was off balance.)
Right now I like this version the best.
I'm also considering adding embroidered fruits to the center of the
white blocks, except that I suspect that's a lot more work than I'm up
for. I think this is a good gender neutral quilt, but I need to make at
least one more quilt this summer, so more work isn't high on my list.
Any thoughts? Is this even a baby quilt or should I make it into an adult lap quilt?
P.S. Mom update: She's apparently been working in a nursery with 17 baby brown pelicans who aren't gentle creatures but greatly appreciate the arrival of humans bearing fishy presents. No pictures allowed, which is okay by me since the ones on the news are heartbreaking enough.
I like the same one you like. It's going to be a great quilt!

What fun to see the different arrangements! I agree with Jennifer. I wonder how this would look, just for the play on the spectrum:
ROY
VBG
YOR
GBV
Bless your mom. I can't bear to look at the photos - and I just learned that the ratio of found birds to those lost at sea is likely 1:10.

I agree that the last configuration is the best. It looks a lot more balanced. I think it's a great baby quilt.

I love the third one down.
Still being eaten by little birds. I'll send a picture of my face soon. But, lovin' every minute of it.
