I finished up all my baby shower bags on Saturday and planned to take the rest of the weekend off from sewing, but then somehow ended up sandwiching and beginning to quilt my gift for the baby shower. Today I made a roll of bias tape binding from one of the dark pink batiks...
And I finished the quilt...
I really love the colors, though I wish there had been one more of the blended colors and one less of the dark pink. Either way, I think it's a bright a cheerful little girl quilt that's not baby-ish at all. It's just under 4 feet long and about 3 feet wide, so a good lap quilt but not a bed quilt.
The quilting is really simple, just echoing the lines inside both the colored and white panels. They're not exactly the same distance apart, which I think gives it a little visual interest. The quilting is done in yellow thread which doesn't show up at all on the orange flowered backing fabric (I keep backing little girl quilts with daisies.....unplanned, but I love them.) The yellow does show up nicely on all of the front fabric except the yellow panels, so I'm very happy with it. I machine bound the entire thing, which I think doesn't look as good as the ones that are hand-sewn, but I wanted it done because I have several other baby gifts to make this summer and time is running out. And I'd like to knit some more, you know?
Beautiful!
