I'll be in one place for two weeks! I am inordinately excited about this, which is a sad statement about my life as it stands now. I suspect the excitement will fade quickly, as I look at a week in Millington, TN and then at least one trip to Mobile, AL. And maybe a trip to Marinette, WI as well. Probably another trip or two in there as well, but I don't know just yet. Here's the few shots I took this past week, starting with the view from my hotel in downtown Colorado Springs, where I spent two nights. (The sky was clear, really...any haze comes from taking the picture through the window.)
And then the slightly less inspiring view from my window in downtown Omaha. In an odd bit of GPS routing on the drive from Offut air Force Base to downtown Omaha, we went through a bit of Iowa. Very strange, that. Omaha did have a nice little downtown, despite the dreary view.
The travel wasn't so bad. Six flights in four days and really only one that had a significant delay, due to a mechanical issue rather than weather, which surprised me given the big thunderstorm Wednesday morning. My companion was okay, except that I ended up sitting with him on half the flights - something we try very hard not to do. He's a good guy, but liked to talk a lot and didn't like to fly, so whenever we hit a big bump, he'd jump and grab hold of his armrest. Startled me out of a doze at least twice. I did get a little knitting done - mom's headband is almost finished, just needs a garter band to connect the pieces and a crochet border.
The first headband didn't need the crochet, but the softness of the yarn here (Lorna's Laces Lion and Lamb) needs some stability around the edges. I spent a good deal of the travel time working on Cinnabar and had hoped to show you the finished front. Except that I just kept knitting after I got to the armholes and managed to make myself a second back. After ripping back, here's what the newly created front looks like.
So, this weekend is going to be about relaxing, cooking and hanging out with friends. I get to see Cindy on Saturday and Lorri at Knit Happens for our monthly get-together on Sunday. Yay!
