Last week there was a tragic story in the San Francisco Bay area about how an 11 month old infant was left in a car because his Daddy forgot to drop him off at daycare. When his dad remembered that he was in the car it was too late. The baby was dead of hyperthermia. We've all heard this story and it makes us feel horrible. We are all so busy that sometimes our brain gets overloaded and things get overlooked . . . unfortunately for this family the thing that dropped out of his brain was the baby in the backseat.
15 babies have died this way in 2007 alone.
My son and his wife are expecting a baby in late September. Prior to the above story I had been thinking about "inventing" something that would remind them that the baby was in the car so this tragedy would never happen to them. They were going to get the prototype.
Yesterday I told my son about my plans. This morning he e-mailed me this CNN news article:
Here is a link to a product mentioned in the article:
Can you believe that there is something on the market that can help prevent this tragedy? How many of you know about it? I sure didn't. The marketing of this type of product needs to be stepped up and that's where we come in. Please pass this along to any and everyone you can think of. I just ordered one for my future grandchild.
Volvo has something that will detect a heartbeat marketed to alert people to someone in their car, and scientists at NASA Langley also has something they are soon to release, developed after a
colleague lost a child in this fashion.
Please pass this along and ask that others pass it along too. Maybe we can help save a little life.
