I was supposed to have dinner tonight with a mentor and friend from my teenage years, but was feeling absolutely rotten when he called to finalize the arrangements. We agreed to meet when I'm next out in California instead. I've kept myself awake for a few hours, long enough to chat with mom (My brother is not going south with the group he is normally associated with, but may go with another. I suspect this is going to be a situation where teams are rotated through for a while, so one or both of them may head down there soon.) I have also knitted a bit:
First up, a completed pair of socks. Like I said earlier, toe up=finished socks. It's a good thing I'm not particularly concerned with identical socks, because these are as fraternal as they get. Sock 1 had random pooling of the foot that turned into striping. Sock 2, completed this evening, has striping on the foot that turned into random pooling on the leg. And they are really finished - I even wove in and trimmed the ends.
And then there is this:
It's the first object I've knitted with yarn I spun myself. It's tiny, but I had just been playing with it, swatching to see what I'd get. Then I turned it into a little bag, just because.
I am now detached and officially without a job. I left just before noon in order to attend a promotion ceremony for a former boss and mentor and then returned home for a nap. Tomorrow I do nothing but work around the house, then after a weekend at the drag races, I enter the training pipeline (schedule as listed below.) I will continue to update here as bandwidth allows, but I'm also thinking of starting another blog, in order to keep the Navy content here to a minimum. I'm not sure how much you guys enjoy reading it here in my knit blog, but I want something where I can update friends and family (only mom and maybe my dad if she showed him, have seen this) more regularly. So, if there is interest, I'll put a link on the side.
